Rivers Rerun: Counting Of Results Begin As INEC Suspends Election In 4 LGAs Over Violence

Counting of votes in Saturday’s rerun election in the 23 council Areas of River state has commenced.
The election took place in the three senatorial districts of the state, 12 federal constituencies as well as 22 state constituencies.
At various polling units including those of Bera in Gokama council area in Rivers South-east district, where Senator Abe of the APC hails from, the exercise witnessed some rowdiness, as members of the PDP staged a protest over alleged hijacking of election result sheets by their opponents.
As AFRICAN EXAMINER earlier reported, the election was relatively peaceful and calm, apart from some few areas such as Eleme council area, where there was accusation and counter accusation of alleged hijacking of electoral materials by supporters of the PDP and APC at various polling units.
However, following the complaint of some hitches in certain areas, INEC has suspended elections in 4 local government councils of the state.
