Rescheduled Polls: APC Demands Redeployment Of Imo REC
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Saturday, April 18th, 2015From Ignatius Okpara, Owerri – Ahead of the forthcoming rescheduled polls in Imo state, the Campaign organization of Governor Rochas Okorocha, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to immediately redeploy the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Gabriel Ada, before the elections.
Director- General (DG) of the campaign body operating under the auspices of “Imo Rescue Mission Campaign Organization” Mr. Iheukwumere Alaribe, in a statement Friday in Owerri, the Imo State capital said the APC has lost confidence in the REC.
Mr. Alaribe who is also the state’s Commissioner for Housing, stated that the redeployment became necessary because Ada has allegedly compromised his duty as the returning officer for the governorship poll in the state.
According to him, the REC. should be removed “over his alleged gross conspiracy with the Peoples Democratic Party to rig the Saturday, April 11, 2015 governorship election.
Speaking to newsmen at the Rochas Campaign Office, located on Okigwe Road, Owerri, Alaribe, also expressed the party’s readiness in taking full part in the stipulated Imo governorship re-run election which has been fixed for Saturday, April 25.
He boasted that the APC would win the election even when conducted over 20 times.
His words: “No amount of rigging by the opposition party will change the mind and vote of the masses, who have avid love for Rochas Okorocha,” he stated.
He however, hinted that before the Saturday, April 11, 2015 election, APC had written to Imo REC in order to ascertain the exact number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) distributed in the affected 250 polling units for the“Instead, the REC decided to falsify figures against APC so as to favour PDP.
“Again, instead of him to work in tandem with his Electoral Officers, he went contrary to mark out areas where there was free and fair exercise with reference to Ezinihitte Mbaise, Mbaitoli and Oru East Local Government Areas, where the EOs never made any remark of violence or to have fresh election just because APC was leading in the area. He alleged”
