Refugees In Danger As Slovenia Limits Daily Intake Of Migrants To 2,500
Latest Headlines, World News Monday, October 19th, 2015As desperate asylum seekers continue to flock Europe, Slovenia authority Sunday indicates it will only allow 2,500 migrants to cross its borders daily.
The figure is however half the number, neighbour Croatia has requested for.
Slovenia Interior Ministry Secretary of State, Bostjan Sefic announced that the country could not accept Croatia’s request to take 5,000, just as Austria’s daily limit is 1,500.
The desperate migrants are mostly from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, who are crossing Croatia and Slovenia to reach Western Europe.
Following the limitation, there is currently a huge build-up of migrants and refugees on Croatia’s border with Serbia.
To some of the migrants, Slovenia is only a transiting country, especially for those still making their way to countries such as: Germany, Sweden and Norway. Still, these countries have indicated their reluctance to absorb more migrants, if countries along the line close their borders.
In the meantime, the Croatian authorities have alarmed that they were worried that the refuges were no longer moving quickly enough, now raising the fear by government officials that Croatia could run out of rooms in its transit camps in few days to come.
On Sunday, about 40 buses of refugees were backed up in Serbia and Police Officers were put to serious task as they engaged angry and frustrated migrants.
Some of the migrants lamented about extremely cold weather, long waiting and lack of food to eat.
