Recovered Loots Helping Nigeria To Finance Capital Projects, Fight Insecurity –Malami

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, said the money recovered from looted assets by some Nigerians, is helping the Federal Government in financing capital projects and the fight against insecurity in the country.

The minister said President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration has so far executed many capital projects across Nigeria with the recovered assets, adding that all was successful as a result of their policies to strengthen the fight against corruption.

Malami disclosed this while featuring at a two-hour programme aired by Radio Kano. He noted that the money recovered from looted assets, especially those that were kept abroad were used judiciously and are all visible by Nigerians.

Some of the projects that were carried out from that money include the Kano-Abuja highway, the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Second Niger Bridge which was abandoned many years ago, and other projects like school feeding programs, the Agricultural inputs supports, N-Power and many others”, he said.

He said Nigeria have recovered a huge amount of money from Switzerland which helped their administration achieve a lot, adding that they also recovered the sum of $311 million dollars from China.

He further observed that the fight against corruption by the government has continued to record tremendous growth which prompted international organizations to commend the country’s performance in the process.

The minister added that President Buhari has shown a high level of commitment by not favouring anybody found wanted, and that people among his cabinet were also convicted and sanctioned over various corruption allegations.

“The fight against corruption has recorded tremendous success also. This administration did not even favour even members of its cabinet whenever found guilty. Many people were convicted on several corruption allegations and nobody intervened to favour or influence the process.

“This has really helped in the recovery of many looted assets and that is what we are using in many of our capital projects. It equally helped in the fight against insecurity because that past administration has looted huge amount of money that was meant for the fight against terrorism. But we came and cleared all their mess. So we did what they were not able to do in one year.

“The time we came there were over 17 local governments in the Northeast that were under the control of the Boko Haram terrorists, there were attacks everywhere in the region. But we were able to recover the 17 local governments, restore peace, build houses for IDPs and many more”, he stressed.
