Press Release: Threat To Life Of APC Chieftain In Omuma LGA, Rivers State
Articles/Opinion, Latest Headlines, News, Press Releases Thursday, March 26th, 2015On Sunday, 15th of March 2015, at exactly 7.08am, Mr. Darlington Nwauju
A member of the Greater Together Campaign Organisation, received a distress call from one Mr Geoffrey Nwowu, an uncle of his, informing him that the campaign billboard of Dr. Dakuku Akol Peterside, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship candidate in Rivers State, mounted right in front of his compound in the village, had been destroyed by suspected thugs working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who supposedly acted on impulse from the PDP rally at a neighbouring village, Umuokewo (Ward 4) in Omuma LGA.
From available information, both the APC Ward Party Secretariat and Nwauju’s compound were simultaneously attacked. It is striking to note that while the APC Secretariat is located at Eketta market, Mr. Nwauju’s compound is in Umuagwu, a village entirely separate from where the party office is located. Thus, simple logic counts that it was a deliberate, well-orchestrated attack.
As a law abiding citizen, same day, Nwauju alerted His Royal Highness, Eze M.O. Ojiegbe; Station Officer, SO, Eberi Police Post, Mr Akindele; the Rivers State Police Command PPRO, Ahmed Mohammed; the Ahoada Area Commander and the Press. Consequently, the matter was recorded at the Eberi Divisional Police Office and the DPO, Mr Akindele responded by visiting the crime scene on Monday 16th March2 2015 but surprisingly, Mr. Nwauju got a call from one Mr Aham Nwamadi on GSM No. 08073459556 at exactly 9.54am challenging and denouncing my comments on the broadcast media. From findings, the caller is the Coordinator of the PDP campaigns in my ward.
Again on Sunday 22nd March at 12.11am midnight, Mr. Nwauju got another call from telephone number 07031617459, and a male voice called his name and dropped the call. Mr. Nwauju tried severally to get back to the said caller but each time it went through, the number was kept busy.
On Wednesday, 24th March, 2015 Mr. Nwauju got a call from an old school mate in the University whose identity he would prefer to keep anonymous, who alerted him of a plot at the Police Officers Mess in Port Harcourt to get him arrested on trumped-up charges. This is very strange considering the fact that it’s been more than one week since Mr. Nwauju reported the incident and up until today no single arrest had been made by the time of writing this report.
It is clear, that all repressive techniques are being adopted to silence Mr. Nwauju vociferous and undiluted believe in a just, fair and equitable power rotation policy amongst the various ethnic nationalities that make up Rivers State.
May we conclude by saying that several plots of arresting, maiming or even eliminating perceived opponents of the PDP in Omuma LGA have since January of 2015 been an open secret as a list of APC stakeholders in the LGA pencilled down for possible arrest was uncovered by the party leader in Ward 9, Barr Ejike Nkwocha.
Let it be on record that Mr. Nwauju’s personal safety and that of his family as well as other APC faithful in Omuma is at great risk.
Signed: Greater Together Campaign Organisation
