Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, the leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, who was arrested in Cotonou, Republic of Benin during the week, has confirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan intervened on his behalf to secure his release.
Asari-Dokubo arrived Abuja on Friday night and told reporters and some of his supporters that his arrest was a result of his alleged links with Boko Haram, an Islamic militant group based in Northern Nigeria.
Alhaji Dokubo further claimed that his ordeal was in connection with his support for the re-election bid of President Jonathan in 2015, and he denied rumors stating that a Presidential jet was sent to bring him back to Nigeria after his release.
