President Jonathan Leads PDP Grand Rally in Ekiti
Latest Headlines, News Sunday, June 8th, 2014The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday stepped up its wining drive at the coming Ekiti gubernatorial election as President Goodluck Jonathan led the big wigs of the party to the state to canvass for votes for its candidate and former Governor of the state, Mr Ayodele Fayose.
According to Newsport Nigeria, the mammoth crowd that gathered at Ado Ekiti township stadium during the PDP Jamboree had indicated the strength of the party and its preparedness to obtain victory in the governorship election scheduled for June 21.
An elated Jonathan in his speech said he was convinced that PDP would win the governorship election hands down, expressing his conviction that he would be back in the state for celebration of Fayose as the next governor of Ekiti.
Jonathan said the governorship election would hold without any form of rigging being tolerated; insisting that voting should be by “One man One Vote”
He said the election would serve as a veritable avenue for the youths in Ekiti to express themselves as he charged them to mobilise for the victory of the PDP’s candidate in the election.
The President noted that since Ekiti prides itself as a home of eggheads in which almost every family has more than one professor, said Education would be key in the agenda of PDP if voted into power.
He expressed happiness that the PDP candidate, Fayose was personally laying emphasis on riving education in Ekiti as he charged the state to ensure that PDP coast home to victory on June 21.
The PDP Candidate after receiving the flag of the party handed over to him by President Jonathan and the PDP National Chairman; Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu said his main commitment would be to bring back the pride of Ekiti on education.
Fayose lamented that Ekiti state had gone down on Education, recalling that as the former governor, he was able to rescue Ekiti from the bottom of ranking of Ekiti state on the performances of students in the West African Examinations.
He recalled that Ekiti state came from number 34 in ranking to number 7 among the states of Nigeria on WAEC examinations, lamenting that the state had gone down again in performance on the examination.
He said the present government in Ekiti has failed the people essentially because it neglected the youths in its considerations, vowing to make the youths the pillar of his support after becoming the governor.
The PDP Chairman re-echoed the President’s desire to have a clean and transparent election in Ekiti on June 21 as he canvassed for one man one vote during the election.
Muzzu who expressed confidence in the strength of PDP to win the governorship election urged members of the party to be vigilant enough to protect their votes during the election.
The Chairman PDP Board of Trustees, (BOT) Chief Tony Anenih thanked the PDP members in Ekiti for their hard work in brightening the chances of Fayose in the june election.
Anenih said he was confidant that the PDP would win the election and that the party’s leaders would return to the state for celebration.
The Senate President, Senator David Mark in his brief remarks said the PDP was presenting a new improved Fayose for the governorship election, while he expressed delight on the mammoth crowd at the stadium.
According to him, the strength of the crowd had indicated the bright chances of PDP in the coming governorship election.
The governor of Akwa Ibom who is also the Chairman PDP Governors Forum, Godswill Akpabio predicted a total win for PDP in the election.
He declared Fayose as the incoming governor of Ekiti state, who according to him would bring uncommon transformation to Ekiti after being sworn in as governor.
Akpabio said PDP would win not less than 99 percent votes in the governorship election, while he charged the PDP voters to defend their votes during the election.
The governors of Kogi, Abia, Cross Rivers, Plateau, Captain Idris Wada, Theodore Orji, Liyel Imoke, Jonah Jang and leaders of the party from the national headquarters and Ekiti state were in attendance during the PDP grand Campaign.
