Presidency Makes U-turn, Says Buhari is Sick, Off to London for 10 Days Medical Leave
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Sunday, June 5th, 2016BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Less than 24 hours after it denied reports that President Mohammadu Buhari is sick, the Presidency has issued a statement saying the president will on Monday proceed to London for a 10-day medical leave.
A statement by the president’s spokesman Femi Adesina said During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T Specialist for a persistent ear infection.
Online news websites had reported that the president canceled his much publicized state visit to Lagos last week due to ear infection and also cancelled his trip to Rivers for the Ogoniland cleanup because he was sick.
In a swift reaction on Saturday, Adesina denied that the president was sick, saying “It is not true. It is the imagination of the writer. The President is fine and has been performing his duties.”
However, in a dramatic u-turn late Sunday, Adesina issued a brief statement that the president is proceeding on a 10-day medical leave to London to treat “a persistent ear infection.”
His words:
“President Muhammadu Buhari will take ten days off and travel to London on Monday, June 6, 2016, to rest.
“During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T Specialist for a persistent ear infection.
“The President was examined by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja, and was treated. Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation.”
