Presidency Berates Fayose Over Allegation Of Scandal Against Aisha Buhari
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Tuesday, June 21st, 2016ABUJA, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State’s indictment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, in the US Lawmaker William Jefferson’s bribery scandal, has been dismissed by the Presidency and considered another desperate and face saving attempt by the vocal Governor.
While reacting to the allegation, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Mr. President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, berated Fayose, stating that ordinarily, the Presidency would have ignored him because he is a man “childishly obsessed with the desire to grab the headlines and insulting people at will because of his incurably boorish instincts”.
Still, he clarified that the Presidency chose to reply on the matter for the interest of innocent Nigerians who might be misled by “Fayose’s shameless and blatant distortion of facts”.
He maintained that ignoring Fayose goes with the risk of giving traction and credibility to outright and brazen falsehoods inconsistent with the status of anybody that calls himself a Governor or leader.
“Hajia Aisha had no direct, indirect or the remotest connection with William Jefferson’s corruption scandal in the United States” Garba declared.
Consequently, he challenged Fayose to convince Nigerians if the Aisha whose pictures he proudly, but ignorantly shared, was the same President Buhari’s wife, or if the Aisha of his idle imagination had any relationship by blood or any relationship in whatever form with President’s wife.
He equally challenged Fayose to produce evidence from the records of investigation and subsequent trial of Jefferson to prove that Hajia Aisha was in anyway linked to the scandal.
Garba submitted that common names alone were not enough to automatically link innocent people to crimes or scandals, especially in an era of identity thieves.
He challenged Governor Fayose to show proof of when and where Aisha Buhari was invited for interrogation in connection with Jefferson’s bribery scandal, let alone indicted for a crime locally or abroad.
The Presidential media aide cautioned that free speech Fayose enjoys did not entitle him to falsely accuse innocent people of crimes they knew nothing about.
He reiterated that Hajia Buhari is entitled to protect her reputation from being recklessly maligned, as well as noted that political opposition was not a licence to attack people’s reputation brazenly, without considering the legal consequences.
Fayose took his fight to President’s wife Monday, after confirming that his personal account with a new generation bank in Ado Ekiti the Ekiti State capital, has been frozen, allegedly on the directive of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
