Popular Katako Market in Jos Engulf by Fire, Property Worth Millions of Naira Destroyed

There was pandemonium on Tuesday night at the popular Katako Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State due to outbreak of fire that destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
The popular Katako market located at Laranto is known for the sales of fairly used clothes, building materials and grains.
Bala an eye witness told African Examiner in Jos that the incident started around 9pm on Tuesday.
Several people, who were helping in trying to rescue some of the goods, were severely injured in the process and are now receiving treatment in some hospitals in the metropolis.
Most of the items burnt included, grains like maize, millet, guinea corn and perishable goods, like onions, pepper and tomatoes.
The traders call on both Local and State Governments to come to their aid as this is their only means of livelihood.
The Director of Fire Service, Plateau State Command, Mr. Michael Dung who spoke to our correspondent described the incident as sad.
He said, “When we got the news of the outbreak of fire at the market, our men immediately mobilized to the scene of the fire with six fire trucks and it took us about eight hours to put out the fire.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire is yet to be known.
