Police To Establish Tactical Points To Wrestle Insurgency
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Wednesday, August 13th, 2014The Acting Inspector-General of Police, (IG)P Suleiman Abba, has directed the immediate establishment of Tactical Operation Points (TOP) in some North Eastern and Western states of the country.
The points which is parts of the Police Force to wrestle raging insurgency in the affected states are expected to be manned by Policemen with training in “tactical operation and counter-terrorism”
In a statement on Wednesday by the Force’s Public Relations Officer in its Abuja heaquarters, ACP Frank Mba, Police informed the points would be established in various strategic locations, including highways in Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba states.
Consequently, Mba revealed that acting IGP has charged all Assistant Inspectors -General of Police (AIGs) in charge of the Zones, covering the affected states and their Commissioners of Police (CPs) to effect close supervision and constant “reskilling of the personnel” performing the special operation.
The statement said IGP Abba was optimistic that the latest measure would enable the Police to check further escalation, frustrate activities of insurgents and other criminals.
Abba promised the Force was determined to track, mop up illegal arms trade and collaboration with other security agencies in the country.
The Police Boss therefore called on members of the public, particularly those in the zones to cooperate with the Force and consider any inconvenience in the new operation “as a necessary sacrifice for the greater safety of all”.
