Police Seal Off Enugu State Assembly As Factional Legislators Clash
Ignatius Okpara, Latest Headlines, News, News From The State Wednesday, May 6th, 2015By Ignatius Okpara, Enugu – A detachment of Police has sealed off and taken over the entrance of Enugu State House of Assembly.
The two factional lawmakers led by the substantive Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh and his rival, Hon. Chinedu Nwamba, have also entangled in one another, in a seemingly show of supremacy.
The Enugu of House of Assembly drama started early Monday morning, when 12 out of 24 State’s lawmakers loyal to Hon. Odoh attempted move to begin impeachment proceeding against the State Governor Sullivan Chime.
Following the foiled move, the nine lawmakers loyal to Governor Chime, assembled and purportedly impeached Odoh and immediately elected Nwamba the factional Speaker.
On Monday afternoon, rumor went viral on some social media that speaker has been sacked by the G-9 legislators. This was however countered by the substantive Speaker, who fired that the action by the minority lawmakers was illegal, insisting he remained the authentic State number one lawmaker.
