Police Rescue Kidnapped Bank Manager In Aba, Arrest Perpetrators

The Joint efforts of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Aba Area Command and Zone 9 of the Nigerian Police, Umuahia on Thursday yielded fruitful result as the security operatives smashed a kidnap gang and rescued one of their victims, a bank manager, Mr. Akwara Stanley in Aba.
African Examiner reports that the victim, who serves as the branch manager of Diamond Bank in Owerri Nta, Isiala Ngwa South Local government area of Abia State was abducted at about 8pm last Monday on his way back home from office.
He was said to have stopped to buy things from a roadside shop beside Binez hotel, Umungasi, Aba, when the hoodlums abducted him.
A police source who do not want to be quoted told our correspondent that the bank manager was rescued in the early hours of (Wednesday), after the police team invaded the undisclosed camp of the kidnappers.
Confirming the story to newsmen in Umuahia, Abia state Commissioner of Police, Usman Tilli Abubakar disclosed that the banker was rescued unhurt and without payment of ransom, adding that he has since been reunited with his family.
Though, the CP did not disclose the location where the banker was rescued, but he hinted that nine persons who were arrested in connection with the incident were being detained by the police.
A resident of the area and shop owner who witnessed the incident told our correspondent that from the way the unholy act was executed, it was clear that the criminals have been trailing the banker for a very long time without him knowing.
He said, “They did not shoot at anyone, the only thing they did was to shoot in the air to scare people away after they laid siege of the man’s Toyota Camry car and took him away with the car.” He stated.
