The Police in Imo State on Thursday smashed two notorious car-snatching gangs that have been making life unbearable for residents of the state, just as they send two of them to their untimely graves.
During the operation, the security men, also killed two members of the syndicates and arrested four.
Parading the suspects at the state command headquarters, Owerri, the state capital, the commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, hinted that the gangs were busted by his Scorpion Squad at Awo- Omamma in Oru East council and Owerri North LGA of the state.
The Imo police boss disclosed that three members of one of the gangs were in a robbery operation at a petrol station in Awo Omamma when his men swooped on them, adding that during the exchange of fire, one of the robbers, Levi Iwu, 23, fell to the superior power of the police.
According to the CP, the scorpion squad also on March 31, 3014, apprehended a five-man gang that specialized in snatching cars within the Eastern region and ferrying them to other states of Nigeria for sale.
His words: “Luck however, ran against them when on March 30, 2014, these dare-devil criminals met their waterloo when they stormed the residence of one Dr. Ishmed Nwabueze, the medical director of a specialist hospital and robbed him of his Infinity SUV 2001 model with registration number SSM 457 AA.”
