Police Nab Businessman Over Wife’s Death at Village Shrine

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Policemen in Enugu state, south East Nigeria, have nabbed an Onitsha-based businessman, who gave his name as Mr. Ikechukwu Odoh, over alleged complicity in the murder of his wife, Mrs. Chinenye Odoh, who was shot dead by a young man at a shrine located at Obollo Afor, in Udenu council Area of Enugu State.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident Sunday, said, “Ikechukwu has been arrested while police have commenced full-scale investigation into the case.”
Ikechukwu and his deceased wife, it was gathered, had been at logger head for a very long time on issue bothering on their marriage, a development that led to their travelling to their village in Obollo Afor for settlement via a traditional means.
A Source close to the family, who craved anonymity while commenting on the issue , said the late Chinenye, who is a mother of two was taken to a witch doctor in the neighbourhood who recommended that the couple should go to the community shrine to resolve their marriage issues.
According to him, “Before now, the husband wanted a divorce, but Chinenye did not want their marriage dissolved after two kids and that was how the issue of going to the shrine for settlement was arrived at though she didn’t know that danger was lurking around.
“On their arrival at the shrine, a lone gunman hiding within the premises opened fire and shot Chinenye at close range and ran away leaving her in a pool of blood,”
The source claimed that the chief priest of the shrine, was not aware of the couple’s visit prior to the incident while Ikechukwu was seen making some suspicious phone calls before the attack.
