…Arrest operator after duping victims N4.6 million

Operatives of the “Ambush squad” of the Imo state police command on Friday arrested one Dr. Fidelis Chukwujindu, from Ogboko community in Ideato south local government area of the state for allegedly extorting money amounting to N4.6 million naira from about 576 victims for admission into a non-existing university.

African Examiner, reports that Ogboko, is the community of Governor 0owelle Rochas Okorocha of Imo state.
Addressing newsmen at the site claimed by the suspect to have been serving as the temporary centre for the alleged university college hospital located opposite the ogboko campus of Imo state university and adjacent to Rochas Okorocha foundation college, Imo state commissioner of police, Mohammed Katshina, said luck ran out of the kingpin when the command got a tip off on his nefarious activities.

According to the Commissioner, preliminary investigation carried out by the command” revealed that the alleged fraud star, Dr. Chukwujindu, had perfected plans to admit his victims numbering over five hundred into an illegal ivory tower named “University College Hospital” at Ogboko in Ideato south council LGA, where he had convinced them that an abandoned uncompleted upstairs would serve as its temporary office.

The self -acclaimed sole proprietor of the non-existing institution, before his arrest, also specialises in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public seeking admission into higher institutions.

The victims, mainly young boys and girls in their early 20s who wore long faces when paraded before journalists, at the premises of the fake university, narrated their ordeals in the hands of the fake medical Doctor, whom they said collected N8,000 and above from each of them for the purported admission forms.

It would be recalled that contrary to earlier claim that the suspect is a United States of American USA, trained medical Doctor, who was into private practice to make booth ends meet, he was discovered during interrogation by the commissioner of police, to be a university drop out.

Meanwhile, the fake institution had at the entrance of the uncompleted building a well-positioned wooden sign board with inscription, University College Hospital Ogboko, Ideato, P.0. Box. 1960, Orlu Imo state(Temporary site)”

The sign board also read:: “Present Courses, B.SC Nursing, Health Sciences, Education, Humanities, Medical Lab Sciences, admission are still going on. Government approved.

Commissioner Katshina, disclosed that the suspect would soon be arraigned in court for the criminal offence.

Recovered from him were admission forms sold to the victims, examination question papers, answer sheets, medical equipment, drugs among other items.
