Police Burst Kidnappers Hide Out In Enugu, Rescue Victims

Operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Enugu state police command Tuesday invaded a kidnappers hide out located in a forest within the state, and rescued some of the victims unhurt as well as arrested a member of the syndicate.
The state police public Relations officer PPRO, Ebere Amarizu, who disclosed this to African Examiner in Enugu, said the suspect is now helping the operatives in their further investigations with a view to apprehending the other fleeing members of the notorious gang.
The PPRO said immediately the case was reported to the state command, the commissioner of police Adamu Mohammed Abubakar, directed the Anti kidnapping outfit to swing into action.
Amarizu said through information gathered from relevant quarters, the police were able to arrest of one of the gang members identified as Ngeneoke Chinugo of Ituku village in Awgu local Government Area of Enugu state, who is also a commercial motorcyclist.
Narrating their ordeal, to newsmen, the victims, Alexander Akadieze, of Amankwo Oghe, in Ezeagu council area of Enugu state, and a third year student of department of political science Enugu state University of science and Technology ESUT as well as Miracle Chukwuemeka, a female student from Enugu Agu achi, in Oji River Enugu state said they were allegedly abducted on 17/2/2014 around 7PM.
Said the second year female student of Department of sociology Enugu state science and Technology, they were allegedly abducted on the said day from their hostel located opposite to the school gate as they came down from upstairs to buy water.
The victims, also hinted that the hoodlums numbering about four had pointed a gun at them and ordered them to get into a standby taxi cab, after which they were taken to an unknown destination and were consequently blindfolded after beaten them thoroughly.
On getting to their den, the suspects demanded for the victims parents names and telephone numbers which they used in calling them immediately, demanding twenty million naira ransom which they later reduced to ten thousand naira with a threat to kill them should they involve the police.
They (suspects) according to the victims had also in one of their conversations threatened to kill them if the money is not paid urgently.
The apprehended suspect, had disclosed how he conveyed one of the fleeing hoodlums with pure water and foodflask to the forest near Ufam stream in Ituku where their victims are held hostage.
But fortunately, the victims were rescued after intensive confrontations inside the den as some of the hoodlums escaped with various degree of injuries.
Recovered at the hideout were berreta pistol with some ammunition belonging to the hoodlums.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspect Ngeneoke, is now pleading for forgiveness, just as he hinted that one of the hoodlums now at large is a family member recently discharged from the prison custody owing to involvement in crime and criminality.
He advised the youths to desist from all forms of crime and criminality in order not to ruin their future.
