Heavy Security Presence At Abia PDP Secretariat

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Heavily armed policemen Thursday morning, took over the Abia State Secretariat of the People’s Democratic party PDP in Umuahia, the state capital. The security Operatives were seen blocking the entrance of the secretariat situated at Finbars Road Umuahia.

The stern-looking Operatives prevented workers and visitors from accessing the compound.

African Examiner gathered that the action was an order from above.

Reacting to the development, the state’s Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Fabian Nwankwo, said there was no cause for alarm.

He said the party is observing a day of rest as party official and workers were asked to stay at home and rest due to accumulated stress of the past weeks of activities.

According to him, activities will fully resume at the secretariat the following day.

But our Correspondent learnt that the development may be connected with the current crisis rocking the party in the state

Some aggrieved members of the party in the state had on Tuesday called for the resignation of the state party chairman, Dr Asiforo Okere, following disagreements among party members over the three-man delegates congress.

The State Exco of the party was accused of compromise and plots to manipulate the process in favour of a certain alleged anointed gubernatorial aspirant.
