Police in Ebonyi state has arrested a 35-year-old man, identified as Titus Agashi, for stabbing his younger brother to death.
The command’s Public Relations Officer PPRO, Mr George Okafor, confirmed the arrest to newsmen on Monday in Abakiliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
He said the police is yet to ascertain the reason for the action.
According to the PPRO, the matter was reported to the police on March 22, adding that the incident occurred at Nwogayi Market in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
“Our officers at Izzi Divisional Police Station visited the scene where they retrieved and deposited the corpse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Ndubia for autopsy.
“The suspect is in our custody but the matter will soon be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command for discreet investigation.
Okafor said: “We are yet to ascertain the cause of the quarrel which led to the stabbing but will get to the root of the matter,”.
However, it was reliably gathered from a source close to the family, who craved anonymity that the suspect stabbed the victim on the chest during a heated argument on a family issue.
The source added that“Sympathisers, who stormed the scene, rushed the victim to the hospital but he died on the way.
“Titus took to his heels afterwards, but we are happy to hear of his arrest by the police,” said the source.
