Police Arrest Man For Stealing 6-Month-Old Baby Boy In Onitsha

BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Anambra state police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man in the commercial city of Onitsha,for allegedly stealing a six-month-old baby boy in Ose Okwudu market in the city.
The suspected baby thief, whose name was simply given as John, without surname allegedly stole the baby from a young girl, while the mother was busy trading in the market.
Mr. Isah Abubakar,the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Onitsha Central Police Station, who confirmed arrest of the suspect Thursday, hinted that he was picked at Abuja Park by an intelligent member of a vigilance establishment, who saw him with the baby.
The DPO, said policemen were alerted when somebody overheard the suspect informing someone on phone that he was coming with the baby,whose cry had attracted attention of people at the park.
Abubakar, urged members of the public to always report any suspected person to the law enforcement agents, especially the police.
He however, blamed the child’s mother, who left him under the care of a girl, for creating the room for the unholy act.
The DPO, said the suspect would be arraigned when the courts resume from break and warned criminal elements in the commercial city and environ to leave or face the music if apprehended.
In her reaction, the mother of the rescued baby, Mrs. Onuaka Udenna, said she left him under the care of his sister, when the suspect came and carried him.
When asked why he engaged in the unholy conduct,the suspect denied the allegation, saying he was an Abuja-based interior decorator on a visit to his brother in Onitsha.
He claimed that he was at the market to buy yam, when he saw the baby crying and wanted to cuddle him so that he can stop crying.
