Police Arrest ATM Card Swapping Syndicate In Enugu, Recover Tricycle, Assorted Cards
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Saturday, April 24th, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The arrest of 25 years old suspect, who gave his name as Chukwudi Chukwu, from Nwofe Village in Izzi Council area of Ebonyi State, who resides at Chime Avenue, Enugu, led to the recovery of a yellow-coloured Bajaj Tricycle popularly known as (Keke) with registration number: ENU 677 WW, which he and is gang uses for the operation.
The state police public Relations officer, PPRO, Daniel Ndukwe,(ASP), who made this known to African Examiner in Enugu on Saturday, said nine (9) ATM Cards of different banks were recovered from the suspect.
According to him, “the suspect, whose arrest followed a swift response to a distress call, would have been lynched by an angry mob if not for the quick intervention of the Operatives.
He was “alleged to have fraudulently swapped a victim’s UBA ATM Card, after offering to assist a woman process her transaction on another bank’s ATM, with the intention of defrauding her.
“He confessed to the crime as well as being a member of the syndicate that specialized in unsuspectingly swapping ATM Cards of their victims at Banks’ ATMs with non-functional Cards, which they use to fraudulently obtain funds from their accounts.
“Meanwhile, intense discreet investigation is ongoing to arrest and bring to book, other members of the criminal syndicate, including the suspect’s accomplices who escaped on the said date.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, has applauded the peace-loving citizens of the State for their assistance in the fight against criminals and their activities.
He, however, pleads with all and sundry to quickly submit arrested criminals to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution, rather than indulge in mob actions that are tantamount to jungle justice.
