Petrol Scarcity: IGP Orders Arrest of Petrol Hawkers, Buyers

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, has ordered arrest of those engaging in the illegal business of hawking petrol along the streets and highways.
The Police Boss in statement issued in Abuja Tuesday, expressed concerned over
the hazards emanating from the activities of black marketers, especially those who
sell petroleum products inside plastic containers
To this end, the IGP has directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General and State Commissioners of Police to arrest anybody found selling petrol and other petroleum products in plastic container.
The statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole stated apart from the hardship the act is causing to motorists and other users, it has also rendered some innocent and law abiding citizens homeless due to fire outbreak from jerry-can petrol storage.
While warning fuel attendants at filling stations to desist from selling petrol with plastic containers, IGP affirmed that the buyers and the sellers of the products would be arrested and prosecuted under the law.
