BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Gale of suspension Friday hit the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as it fired some of its members, including former Senator Iyiola Omisore and serving Senator Buruji Kashamu of Osun and Ogun State chapters respectively.
The decision to suspend the members was due to alleged anti-party activities by the stalwarts.
A statement signed by the Osun factional Chairman Mr. Soji Adagunodo and his Secretary, Mr. Bola Ajao states: ” The state executive committee received recommendation from various wards to local governments and senatorial districts, to suspend the following PDP members : Dr. Bayo Faforiji, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, Chief Ojo Williams and Hon. Bade Falade.
“In accordance with the provisions of the PDP constitution, and inherent powers vested on the State executive committee of the party, the said individuals are hereby suspended as recommended.”
The EXCO also directed the former PDP Governorship candidate to go and clear the allegation of money laundering leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before he is allowed to involve in the affairs of the party.
Similarly, the Ogun State chapter of the PDP has slammed suspension on other members including Messrs Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, Semiu Shodipo, Fatai Adeyanju, Segun Seriki, Daisi Akitan, and Bowale Solaja.
The factional Chairman Mr. Sikirulai Ogundele and Secretary Mr. Olabode Bankole, in a statement signed Friday indicated that Senator Kashamu and others’ suspension was sequel to the report of a panel constituted in June to investigate allegations of financial improprieties and anti-party activities against the seven members.
“Based on the preliminary report of the panel however, submitted to the Executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, we found merit in the allegations and hereby adopt the report and findings of the Panel which include recommendation to suspend the above mentioned,” the statement said.
“In the exercise of the powers vested on the State Executive committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party the above name are hereby suspended from the Ogun State Chapter of the PDP with immediate effect; their names have also been forwarded to the national secretariat of the party for necessary further appropriate disciplinary actions’’ the statement clarified.
However, both Omisore and Kashamu have reacted to their suspension, saying, nobody could suspend them from the party.
Omisore’s suspension appears like vengeance as another faction of the PDP loyal to him and headed by Dr. Bayo Faforiji had on Thursday announced expulsion of the National Secretary Prof. Wale Oladipo and Adagunodo-led State EXCO.
