PDP Raises Alarm Over Sylva’s Plan To Air Smear Documentary Against Dickson
Latest Headlines, News Thursday, November 19th, 2015BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State said yesterday that it has uncovered a smear plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Timipre Sylva, to air a documentary denouncing the performance of the incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson, ahead of the December 5 election in the state.
Director of Publicity of the Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, who made this known in a statement, said the 30-minute documentary was contracted to a Swiss film maker at a cost of two million dollars and would be aired few days to the election to portray the government in bad light.
He stated that the documentary was uncovered through the party’s intelligence network which, he said, revealed a misleading comparison between the quality of infrastructure in the state and that of Switzerland, a move he described as untenable.
According to Obeibite, the impression created in the documentary was that of a state of broken roads and heaps of refuse dumps especially in the state capital, Yenagoa.
He further stated that the documentary suggested it was Sylva who could upgrade the standard of roads in the state to that of Switzerland, saying the international standard so projected was an illusion because the two environments were different and as such the APC candidate’s characterization was a misleading self-promotion.
“The question to ask Sylva is why he could not replicate the Switzerland model when he held sway as governor for five years? Why can’t he now use his legacy as a former governor, if he actually has any good ideas and worthy legacy, to campaign?” Obuibite queried.
He has, therefore, called on the people of the state not to be deceived by Sylva’s antics which, he said, was a desperate move to tarnish the image of the PDP candidate for political reasons.
He drew the public attention to the array of infrastructural projects in roads and bridges as well as empowermentprogrammes executed by the Dickson administration since inception in 2012 which he reckoned had been well applauded by leading lights and people across the state as remarkable feats within the limits of available funds.
He stated: “The documentary and other dirty schemes being deployed by Sylva clearly shows the desperation of the APC to capture power by hook or crook. But we are confident that the APC candidate is a bad product that cannot win election in the state because Sylva has been rejected by majority of Bayelsans and the gods of the land.”
