PDP Okays Haliru Mohammed As Acting BoT Chairman
Featured, Latest Headlines, Politics Tuesday, May 26th, 2015By Ganiyu Nasirudeen – Less than a week after its immediate past National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu was frustrated out of office, the ruling PDP, has announced a former Defence Minister, Haliru Mohammed, as the new acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The ex-Minister appointment was endorsed late Monday night by the country’s outgoing ruling party BoT, during a meeting held at Presidential villa, Aso Rock FCT Abuja.
It would be recalled the immediate past BoT head, Chief Tony Anenih, dropped his resignation letter late last Wednesday after Mu’azu did the same earlier the same day.
Chief Anenih stated in his letter that his decision was to clear the way for the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan to take charge of the party that has been in power in the country for 16 years.
The new acting Chairman was once the acting National Chairman of the PDP; former Commissioner, in the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) and later appointed as the Minister of Communication in 2001 during the tenure of former Olusegun Obasanjo.
While he was a Minister, Mohammed was fingered in a multibillion naira scandal, involving a multinational telecommunication firm – Siemen AG and some Nigerian officials, as well as party Chieftains for receiving huge bribes paid by the telecomm giant officials. Two other countries, Libya and Russia were also involved in the similar scam.
