The Candidate of People’s Democratic Party PDP in Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra state, Mr. Tony Nwoye and his labour party counterpart, Ifeanyi Uba have both called for total cancellation of the poll, alleging it was seriously characterised by electoral frauds and manipulation.
Addressing newsmen Sunday in Awka, Nwoye, who almost broke into tears, alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, scientifically rigged the election in favour of APGA, through security agencies, especially the Police and Army.
He, however, described the exercise as a monumental fraud and embarrassment to the people of Anambra state and Nigeria in general.
According to Nwoye, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Chukwuma Onukaogu, deliberately desenchanfrised his people, a similar allegation leveled earlier against the electoral body by the All progressive Congress APC, candidate in the election, Dr. Chris Ngigi.
He alleged that the election was massively manipulated to the extent that many voters names were missing in the voter register, including myself, my mother, and 79 year old father.”
“Yesterday’s election was the worst election I have ever experienced in my life “Nwoye lamented.
He insisted that the election be cancelled, saying it is highly unacceptable to him as a person.
Just like Dr. Ngige alleged, the PDP candidate, said that electoral materials were not dispatched to virtually all his areas of strength.
Asked if he intends challenging the election result in court when announced by INEC, he said he was going to consult the national leadership of his party on the next line of action.
In a similar reaction, the Labour party candidate, Uba, accused INEC of using security operatives to harass and intimidate the electorate on Saturday.
Uba, who described the election as shameful and disappointing, called on INEC to declare him winner of the poll, because despite the massive rigging by APGA, he (Ifeanyi Uba) won the political contest.
“I want INEC to cancel the election, or declare me the winner, because I won it “the Nnewi born oil magnate declared.
According to him, “with what happened on Saturday in Anambra state, the integrity of the INEC National chairman, professor Atahiru jega is now at stake.”
