PDP In Hot Water Over Akwa Ibom Guber Candidate
Featured, Latest Headlines, Nigeria 2015 Election Sunday, December 14th, 2014Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja – Except something drastic happens, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may be without a flag bearer in Akwa Ibom state in 2015 Governorship election.
No thanks to an Abuja High Court that has granted an ex-parte injunction of one of the aggrieved governorship aspirants restraining PDP from submitting any name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
What is more, the Courts in the Federal Capital territory has since proceeded on Christmas and New year recess.
The court before proceeding on recess had adjourned the matter till 5th January 2015.
According to our source, the dilemma of the Wadata Plaza is that before 5th of January, parties ought to have filled the name of their candidates with INEC.
“The challenge before the leadership of the party is how to reverse the injunction since the courts are already on break.
“As a party that believe in rule of law, PDP can’t ignore such an order and proceed to submit a candidate name when it has been barred by the court.
“The party feared that the scenario playing out in Akwa Ibom may be to the advantage of the rival All Progressive Congress at both the Governorship and Presidential polls”.
22 out of 23 aspirants in the state have kicked against the choice of Udom Emmanuel because of what they consider as flaw process that gave him the ticket.
