OGUN, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed doubt on possibility of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to survive its present travail.
Consequently, he had described the party as a “dying” political party, saying that PDP is presently in comatose, therefore, needed to be taken to an intensive care unit for diagnosis and treatment.
The former President made these submissions Saturday while fielding questions from journalists, after a closed door meeting in his Abeokuta Hilltop residence, with the PDP factional National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff.
Obasanjo, also a former Head of State who insisted he has dropped partisan politics during the interview said: “I was once the leader, for eight years. I was the leader of PDP but the PDP that I was the leader of is not the PDP of today”.
He restated “if you can talk of a party again as PDP, its soul has been taken out of it and those who allowed that to happen are, unfortunately, either in the country or out of the country unperturbed about the fate of the party and indeed the fate of the country”.
In what seemed like mocking the imposing factional acting National Chairman, Obasanjo stated he wished Bonu-Sheriff well in the “dying baby they have put on his laps” reiterating that the PDP was in comatose. He clarified he is not a member of the party.
