PDP Faults Ekiti Assembly Over Approval Of New LGs
Featured, Latest Headlines, Politics Thursday, July 24th, 2014Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has chided the Ekiti State House of Assembly for going ahead to approve the creation of new local governments in the state.
The party, in a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday by the State Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, said the action of the Assembly smacked of disrespect to law and legality.
The party also said it was height of illegality for the Assembly to increase the number of proposed LGs from 18 to 19 when referendum was conducted for 18 LGs.
“We are still in court challenging the legality of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission and the body went ahead to organise an illegal referendum.
“The Assembly added more illegality to an illegal act by increasing the number of the councils. We are restating the fact that both SIEC and Assembly are into illegal acts.
“You cannot build something on nothing and we are law abiding party and are calling on the people of the state to take note of what the outgoing government of the All Progressives Congress is doing,” he said.
Oluwawole noted that the approval of the Assembly for Governor Kayode Fayemi to create new LGs was illegal.
