PDP Enjoins Nigerians To Embrace Spirit Of Scotland Unity

The just concluded Scotland referendum in which “no” vote won with 55 per cent to 45 per cent “yes”, has attracted the attention of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as it has called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of unity for a peaceful entity.

The party in a press statement Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, noted by chosen to remain in the Union – United Kingdom (UK) after 300 years of togetherness as a nation, the Scotish have demonstrated that there was unity in diversity, despite its inherent challenges as well as resolve to collectively make headway, as a people with a common destiny.

Metuh noted Nigerians may be different in tongues, tribes and religious affiliations, yet, as one people, should not live on those differences “but rather magnify those things that bind us together so that we continue to live together in peace, love and unity”.

The PDP Publicist urged Nigerians to aspire to live without political, tribal, religious and sectional considerations, but rather see one another as a united people, one strong, virile and indivisible nation.

Metuh indicated that the prevailing challenges facing the country were transient, calling on the citizens to make sure their thoughts and actions were moderated by the common national interest, values which bind them in love.

“It is incontrovertible that Nigeria remains stronger and more prosperous as one nation. In this regard, we call on all citizens to put the unity of the nation above every other personal and sectional interests in all their dealings and aspirations,” Metuh added.

In the meantime, the PDP has enjoined all government functionaries at all levels in the country to step up their drives in proper handling of resources in line with their manifesto. This, he explained would not only make people to enjoy benefits of democratic government, but would also justify their interest to vote in the next year general elections.

In a related development, the Lagos state chapter of PDP has sent its condolence to Pastor T.B Joshua of the Synagogue Church of the Nation on the disaster that befelled the church last Friday.

In a statement Friday by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, PDP commiserated with the church and families who lost loved ones in the collapse.

Gani however called for full investigation of the unfortunate development in which over 60 people were killed and several injured.
