PDP Convention: Dickson Heads Reconciliation C’ttee, Seeks Internal Democracy

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to work assiduously towards repositioning the party with the aim of regaining power in the 2019 general elections.

Dickson made the call in Abuja on Wednesday shortly after his inauguration as Chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee alongside other four committees by the PDP National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff ahead of the party’s convention.

According to him, it was critical for members to ensure the enthronement of internal democracy within the party in order to give them a sense of belonging irrespective of ethno-religious differences.

Dickson said it is imperative for members to see themselves as equal stakeholders within the PDP and work together as members of one family towards strengthening the party to achieve set goals.

He said, “If members would play according to the rules, exhibit fairness and equal treatment by all, it would go a long way in making the PDP a formidable and united party to clinch power at the centre come 2019.”

Dickson who reminded PDP members to come to the realization that the party was now in opposition, stressed that they no longer have access to the centre to resolve issues as it was the case in the past when the PDP held sway.

“It is incumbent on each and every member to work together as members of one family to promote unity of purpose and fairness so that the party can win the 2019 election. It is important to note that failure to do this would make the PDP look like a cursed orphan”, the governor stated.
