PDP Begins Screening Of South East Governorship Aspirants

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend commenced screening of gubernatorial Aspirants from four South Eastern States in Enugu, ahead of its December 8, 2014 primaries.
Southeast zonal office of the party, located at the GRA, Enugu, became a beehive of political activities since Saturday the exercise began.
Among the participating states in the zone, Imo has the highest number of governorship hopefuls, with a total of 18 aspirants jostling for its one man position.
Some of the major contenders in the state include, Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, ex- governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim and Chief Martin Agbaso, who recently defected from All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the ruling PDP as well as the only female aspirant, Senator Chris Ayanwu, amongst others.
Enugu State aspirants include, the purpoted consensus candidate and Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Senator Ayogu Eze, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Eugene Udoh, Engineer Anayo Onwuegbu, Chinedu Onuh, among others.
Ebonyi has the controversial immediate past Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, the incumbent Deputy Governor, Dave Umeahi and others.
Also present at the screening which extended into mid night on Saturday, and expected to continue till Monday, were aspirants from Abia state.
Speaking with newsmen, South East zonal Chairman of the PDP, Colonel Augustine Akobundu, (rted.) had assured all the aspirants from the various state of a level playing ground.
AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that the party, had earlier in the week screened Aspirants for National and State Assemblies.
