PDP Adopts Saraki, Dogara for NASS Leadership As Buhari Wades Into APC Crisis
Featured, Latest Headlines, Politics Tuesday, June 9th, 2015By Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) early Tuesday morning endorsed the candidature of Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate and Dogara as the speaker of the House of Representatives
This endorsement is seen as moves to pay back the All Progressives Congress, APC for a similar treatment it received from the Bola Tinubu led Action Congress of Nigeria when it supported Aminu Tambuwal to become Speaker against the choice of PDP.
A statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh directed all elected Senators of the party to cast their votes for Saraki while House members-elect should vote Dogara.
However it was learnt that President Mohammadu Buhari who returned from the G7 meeting Monday night will meet with the National Assembly members of the APC to salvage the already bad situation.
Similar efforts made by the vice president, Yemi Osibajo on Monday night was rebuffed by the Saraki and Dogara groups.
The election of the National assembly leadership is expected to take place today (Tuesday) after the inauguration of the 8th session of the parliament.
