Okorocha Blasts Ohaneze Ndigbo For Not Backing Igbo Presidency Project

From Ignatius Okpara, Owerri

October 11, 2014

Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha  has lambasted the leadership of the apex Igbo socio – cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo for its aversion to the Nigerian President of Igbo extraction – a project being championed by him.

He expressed shock and lamented lackluster attitude among the Igbos in drives towards occupying the nation’s number one position in 2015.

The governor, made his position known on Friday in Owerri, the Imo state capital when he received the Enugu Zonal Director and management team of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) in his office.

The Chairman, Governor’s Forum, of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) asserted that the country belonged to all Nigerians and wondered why Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo should champion the cause of discouraging an Igbo man from aspiring for the highest position in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He however tasked the Igbos to brace up and support any of their son nursing Presidential ambition.

Okorocha assured the FRCN team of his administration’s support ,just as he challenged the Federal Government owned station to pursue the goal of uplifting the people and uniting the nation by being objective in their reportage.

He however, regretted that FRCN had failed to give elaborate report on the abandoned Imo axis of the Port-Harcourt-Owerri Road which poses great danger to motorists plying the highway.

Earlier in his speech, the Enugu Zonal Director of FRCN, Chigozie Obialor, told the governor that they were in Owerri to hold the 3rd and 4th Annual conference.

He noted that the conference with the theme:“Overcoming the challenges of Election Year through Radio Programme”, would provide the radio Stations within the zone with new ideas that would help serve the public better.

Obialor appreciated the Governor for providing the  station with conducive atmosphere for operation in Owerri and requested for an operation vehicle for it.

He also assured the State government of the station’s collaboration at all times.
