Obama’s Speech Insertion: Presidency Orders Disciplinary Action Against Erring Officers
Featured, Latest Headlines, U.S./Canada, World News Sunday, September 18th, 2016ABUJA, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered prompt and appropriate disciplinary action against those who were responsible for a wrongful insertion – part of US President Barrack Obama’s victory speech, in his address delivered on September 8, 2016 at the launch of the “Change Begins with Me’’ campaign.
It was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 Victory Speech and what President Buhari read in paragraph nine of the sixteen-paragraph speech while inaugurating the Campaign, were too close to be passed as coincidence.
In a statement issued by SSA on Media and Publicity to Mr. President Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency admitted that there was a mistake by an overzealous staff, thus the error was regretted.
The statement confirmed that a Deputy Director in the Presidency has accepted responsibility for the insertion of the contentious paragraph and assured that the serious oversight would be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted out to culprits.
‘’The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again’’ added the statement.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has urged Nigerians to look beyond the incident and focus on the message of change which the country needs in order to restore her cherished value systems.
