The National Chairman, Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu has resigned ahead of October 4, 2014 national convention of the party.
Nwanyanwu made the disclosure in Abuja on Wednesday after the National Working Committee meeting.
He explained that his resignation was to allow another person to lead the party after serving two terms as the national chairman.
“I am not leaving to join another political party. I am only leaving because I feel it is time for other person to come and contribute to the development and growth of the party. I still believe in the ideologies of the party. ” The outgoing LP National Chairman said.
The resignation of Dan Nwanyanwu was coming amidst the growing speculation that the only Labour Party governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state will defect to PDP soon as many Nigerians have labeled the party as annex of the ruling party.
