Northern Community In Enugu Raises Alarm Over Disappearance Of Members

The Northern Community in Enugu State has raised alarm on the mysterious and sudden disappearance of three of its members.
The missing members include: Nuhur Tahiru, Musa Nuhu and Idris Lawan. The three are tricycle operators from Enugu Central Mosque Unit.
A statement issued on behalf of the community by a Human rights organization, under the auspices of the Civil Rights Realization and Advancement Network (CRRAN); said,” Nuhu and Tahiru were last seen in the community last Saturday when they left with their tricycles and never return.
The statement signed by the south- East President of the organization, Barrister Olu Omotayo, and made available to AFRICAN EXAMINER in Enugu added that the third person, “Idris Lawan, went out with his tricycle for business on Sunday and up till date he never return back to the community.
Also commenting on the development, Vice Chairman of Tricycle operators, Enugu Central Mosque Unit, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said they have reported the matter at the Ogui Road Police Station and the Police Headquarters, Enugu.
He disclosed that members of the Northern community numbering over 100 has organized a search in parts of Enugu, such as Emene Road, Enugu / Port Harcourt Express Road as well as Ugwuaji area “but up till now we could not locate the missing persons.
The community maintained that their members have been living peacefully with their host.
They however wondered about the recent turn of events in Enugu, where some unscrupulous elements have allegedly established a criminal gang which abducted and killed tricycle operators as shown by the last incident where corpses of three abducted tricycle operators were recovered in a shallow grave at Ugwuaji area and their tricycles missing till date.
In his reaction, the Chief Imam of the Enugu Central mosque, Owerri Road, Alhaji
Rukalmeni Saidi, who said he was directed to report the matter to the Police, hinted that he is now leading the community in prayers with a view to seeking Allah’s intervention in the matter.
He said the community is calling on the Enugu state government to step up security in the state especially as lives of citizens are gradually being threaten because of the current security lapses in the area.
“We urge the state government to consolidate on the adequate security put in place by its immediate predecessor, because crime rate is increasing at an alarming rate in the hitherto peaceful city of Enugu.
“The State government has to live up to its’ responsibility to ensure the security of the lives and properties of all the citizens of the state.
He said:”we urge the State government to ensure that no stone is left unturned to apprehend the killer gang behind these dastardly acts”.
