NMA Calls Off Nationwide Strike; Hinges Decision on Drive To Check Ebola
Featured, Latest Headlines Thursday, August 7th, 2014The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its nationwide industrial action, which started over a month ago.
The associations National President, Dr. kayode Obembe, who made the announcement Thursday said that the body decided to call of the strike to support government in efforts and measures to stop further spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria.
The disease while the strike lasted, had claimed two victims in the country – a Liberian, Patrick Sawyer and a nurse who had contact with him in Lagos. A female doctor who first attended to Late Sawyer is also infected and critically ill presently.
Dr. Obembe however affirmed that the negotiations on the 24 points demand which led to the strike which affected activities in the state and Federal government owned hospital nationwide would still continue.
