The world football governing body, FIFA has announced its latest ranking, with Nigeria Super Eagles being placed 42nd in the globe and Algeria leading in the African continent.
The senior National team in the ranking released Thursday, is presently placed ninth in Africa – trailing behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Ghana, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Egypt and Senegal.
The downward trend is directly linked to the Eagles poor performances in their recent 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers matches. They lost 1-0 to Sudan in Khartoum and played goalless draw in South Africa.
FIFA ranked Algeria first in Africa, with 989 points. With this, the Algier’s senior team occupies the 15th position in the world. The second 2nd position went to Cote d’Ivoire who were ranked 25th in the world. Tunisia which poled third in the continent with 780 points came 31st in the world.
Away from Africa, Germany, Argentina and Colombia teams were ranked the first, second and third respectively in the global ladder. The host of the last FIFA world cup mundial, Brazil maintained her sixth position as announced in the last (September) ranking.
It would be recalled the African champions were rated 38th team in the last month ranking.
