Nigeria At 53: Delta Speaker Ochei Urges Nigerians To Relish Unity In Diversity
Press Releases Tuesday, October 1st, 2013Nigerians have been counseled to derive strength from the variety of tribes, dialects and cultures in sustaining the corporate existence of the country, thereby extenuating the virtues of unity in diversity.
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Victor Ochei made this clarion call, contained in his celebratory message to Nigerians on the country’s 53rd independence anniversary.
In the message, the legislator highlighted resilience, patriotism, mutual tolerance, honesty and ability to shun divisive tendencies as essential ingredients in attaining societal development, which the country as a fledgling democracy needs.
He urged further that “as a people, we must-one and all-renew our faith in our common national project and the brotherhood that defines the desire for an accomplished nationhood, in spite of our marked differences in tribe and tongue”.
Hon Ochei also posited that consistency in upholding these virtues will entrench hope, beget and nourish expectation, and, overtime, deliver our hearts desire of – enduring positive reality.
The legislator advised Nigerians as well as Deltans in particular, not to despair, or lament lost opportunities but rather resolve to work harder, at every turn, on the core values of patience, peaceful disposition, consistency, honest hard work and reasonable sacrifices for the overall national good in the short, medium and long terms.
He observed that even as nation building is fraught with daunting tasks, it behoves citizens to always cherish the fact that upholding these core values will usher in positive attainments.
