Nigeria: 2 Spouses of Ebola Victims Test Positive

The Federal Government has confirmed the country’s first two cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in secondary contacts of the index case – the Liberian-American, Late Patrick Sawyer.
Minster of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu made the confirmation Friday in Abuja at a press briefing.
Professor Chukwu explained that the two patients were spouses of primary contacts of the Liberian-American, adding that they were among the “secondary contacts who have been under surveillance.”
He added that the latest case now brought to four, the total number of EVD patients currently under treatment at the isolation ward, while total number of cases of the Virus reported so far in the country was 14.
The Minister recalled that the total number of deaths stood at five while the number of those “successfully managed and discharged”remained five.
In the meantime, Chukwu re-affirmed that the Federal Government would continue to work with the Lagos State Government and other partners, to check further outbreak of the deadly virus.
