NDLEA Arrests 471 Suspects In Bauchi


Audu Limun, Bauchi – The Bauchi state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 471 suspects and impounded a total of 1,035.938kg of assorted drugs in the last one year.

The State commander of the agency, Mohammed Malami Sokoto who disclosed this yesterday while giving the scorecard of the agency in 2014 at the command’s headquarters in bauchi state said that the assorted drugs include Cannabis Savita, Exol-5, Diazepam, Raphynol, Pentazoine and Tramadol.

Other drugs seized by the command in the year under review according to the NDLEA boss include 412 cartons containing 20,639 bottles of benyline.

He said that due to the excess demand for benyline with codeine (cough syrup) in the state, a bottle now sells for N800 to N1,000 as against the former price of N200, adding that majority of the drug addicts at the command’s rehabilitation centres are victims of cough syrup abuse.

According to the NDLEA boss,”out of the 471 suspects arrested, 107 persons were convicted to various jail terms while others have been counselled and released to their parents and guardians.41 suspects are currently in our detention facility awaiting prosecution”

“The Command has also for the first time discovered and destroyed cannabis plantation in the state and seized eight vehicles conveying drugs within the year under review”

Sokoto said that 101 clients were admitted while 67 others were discharged at the agency rehabilitation centre, adding that the command has seized a total of 4,476.543kg of accumulated assorted drugs over the years awaiting court order for their destruction along with several vehicles and motorcycles.
