NASS Crisis: APC Insists On Party’s Choice, Condemns Saraki, Dogara’s Disobedience
Featured, Latest Headlines, National News, News Thursday, June 25th, 2015By Ganiyu Nasirudeen – The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned and rejected the outcome of the appointment exercise Thursday, of the principal officers in both chambers of the National Assembly.
APC’s position was made public in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni.
Buni stated that the ruling party “stands by the list sent to the President of the Senate (Bukola Saraki ) and the Speaker of the House of Representatives”, (Yakubu Dogara).
As a follow up to that, the statement indicated that the APC National Caucus, BOT and NEC would meet within the next few days to discuss the evolving developments in the National Assembly.
It would be recalled that the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Monday sent letters to Saraki and Dogara, indicating the party’s choice for the remaining principal office positions.
Contrary to Senate President’s choice (Ali Ndume and Bala Ibn Na’Alla), as the Senate Leader and Deputy respectively, Chief Oyegun in the letter nominated Senators Ahmed Lawan and Geroge Akume in the same order. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila was the party’s nominee for the position of House Leader among other nominations.
While Saraki had his way at the Senate, Dogara was prevented by the APC House members from defying the party’s choice, as he refused to read the letter sent to him by Oyegun. This resulted to free for all, commotion and fierce fight for the mace among the polarized APC senators.
