Nasarawa Chief Judge Inaugurates Allegation Investigative Panel Against Governor Al – Makura
Latest Headlines, News, Sports News Sunday, July 27th, 2014Following the directive by the state House of Assembly, the Nasarawa state Chief Judge, Justice Sulaimon Dikko has constituted a seven – man investigative panel to look into allegations of gross misconduct and financial misappropriation against Governor Umaru Tanko al – Makura
Justice Dikko while inaugurating the panel in Lafia, the state capital stated that his action was informed by the request of the state legislators and in line with the section 188 (as amended) of 1999 constitution. He therefore urged members to discharge their responsibility as expected and without bias.
The Chairman of the panel, Yususf Usman while responding, stressed that the panel members were not politicians and did not belong to any political party. He promised they would not fail the state in the task before them.
Impeachment move against embattled Governor Al – Makura started penultimate last week when about 16 of the state’s lawmakers endorsed sack motion and resolved to serve the Governor. The development ignited protest in various parts of the state and resulted to death of about five people, destruction of property and arrest of over 20 suspects accused of turning the peaceful riot violent.
Governor Al – Makura against the announcement by the lawmakers claimed he has not received any impeachment notice. President Goodluck Jonathan however last Friday had a closed door meeting with about six state lawmakers. The subject of discussion at the parley remain unknown.
