Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday inaugurated its National Campaign Council, NCC, for the 2015 general election.

The Alhaji Adamu Muazu, PDP National Chairman, is to chair the campaign while the former Chairman, Dr. Ahmadu Ali is to serve as the Director General of the council.

Other members include President Goodluck Jonathan; Vice President Namadi Sambo; Senate President David Mark; Chief Tony Anenih, Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees; Prince Uche Secondus, Deputy National Chairman;

A statement from the party national secretariat of the party said the duty of the body is to set up the national as well as the state campaign teams of the party; monitor and regulate these teams; and ensure their strict adherence to the party’s manifesto.

“The PDP’s decision to go for such high caliber of persons as members of the council is an indication of the importance the party attaches to maturity and decency in politics.

“As the ruling party in the country, the PDP has the onerous responsibility of agenda – setting in the polity. It is also incumbent on the party to show the light for other political parties to find the way.”

However, the party said it is NOT unmindful of the mood of the time. The security challenges in parts of the country; the resultant waste of lives of innocent citizens and displacement of others is a monumental national calamity.

“The party, in the course of its campaigns, will also mobilize the nation to fight this cankerworm and restore the territorial integrity of our dear nation. The PDP is NOT just a political party, it is a movement: a movement for national transformation and development.”

Other members of the council include a former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, who is the deputy Director General, head office; Honourable Kabiru Turaki, Deputy Director General North; Mr. Peter Obi, Deputy Director General, South; Chief Godswill Akpabio, Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum; ; Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation; and Retired Brigadier General James Arogbofa, Chief of Staff to the President.

The Zonal coordinators are Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, South South; Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, South East; Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, South West; Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, North Central; Governor Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State, North East; and Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, North West.

The rank of the past chairmen of the party was not left out as Senator Barnabas Gemade, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed are all members of the council.

Also in the council are Chief Olabode George and Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, SA Political Affairs to the President.
