Moon Sighting Confirmed, Fasting Commences Saturday
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Saturday, June 28th, 2014Following the sighting in some Northern states of the country (Nigeria) and confirmation of the moon later on Friday, The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has officially announced and pronounced the commencement of fasting today – Saturday, June 28, 2014.
“There was delay in the confirmation because we were waiting and doing analysis to collate all our sources of information. The moon was sighted in Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina and other parts of the country therefore, the Sultanate Council is hereby calling on all Muslim faithful in Nigeria to commence fasting today (Saturday) being the first day of Ramadan,” the Sultan explained.
Earlier, NSCIA has on Thursday in a release issued by its Secretary-General, Professor Isahq Oloyede assured that formal announcement would be made immediately the moon is sighted, by the moon sighting committee of the body, headed by Dr. Hafis Wali.
The annual fasting is a spiritual exercise compulsory on every matured Muslim. It is a month full of blessings and features series of spiritually rewarding engagements.
