Minister Justifies Deployment of Police To Ekiti

…Says APC Mobilised Thugs From Lagos

Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, has said that the deployment of police officers to Ekiti State for the governorship election held yesterday was not to harm anybody but to ensure the security of life and property in Ekiti.

Adesiyan who spoke at a press conference in Osogbo Saturday denied media reports that the police were after governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were in Ekiti State for the election.

He said the governorship election in Ekiti was peaceful due to the efforts of the police and other security agencies.

He said the Ekiti election would mark a new beginning in the country’s political system, stressing that the best candidate who is the choice of the masses will emerge after the poll.

Adesiyan who said the police deployed to Ekiti did not harass any politician, noted that only APC thugs who intended to cause chaos were arrested by the force.

He said: “I am not a Minister of Police Affairs for the PDP alone, but a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I am duty bound to ensure that the lives of all the people of this country are protected.”

The Minister also alleged that the APC mobilized thugs to Ekiti from Lagos State to destabilize the election, but for the swift action of the police.

He stressed that President Jonathan is an apostle of ‘one man one vote’, adding that elections in the country would henceforth be devoid of manipulations with the measures put in place by the Federal Government.
