Mimiko Emerges Chairman PDP Governors’ Forum
Featured, Latest Headlines, News, Politics Wednesday, June 17th, 2015By Abdul Gafaar Bello – Incumbent Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has been elected the Chairman of the leading Nigerian opposition PDP Governors’ Forum.
Mimiko who until the Election Wednesday in FCT Abuja, was occupying similar position in the South Western part of the country.
He succeeded immediate past Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, who is now a Senator.
Election of Mimiko was one of the highpoints of the PDP Governors meeting which started yesterday in Abuja.
Mimiko, once a member of the PDP, but was elected Governor in 2007 under the platform of another opposition, the Labour Party (LP).
He dumped LP last year, after many tactical delays and returned to the PDP.
The Governor was the South West Coordinator of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization during the last general elections.
While fielding questions from journalists after his election, Mimiko promised his regime would do everything to engage in a very constructive manner, the current administration, as well as “create formal and informal mechanisms of pair review” for development of the country.
The PDP Governors at the meeting condemned the relocation of the Akwa Ibom; Taraba and Rivers States lower Elections Petition Tribunals to Abuja, demanding that they be returned to their respective States.
