Military Chiefs Declare Boko Haram Insurgents As Threat To Sub Region Peace
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Friday, November 20th, 2015The menace of Boko Haram insurgence is not affecting only the Lake Chad Basin Commission member countries, but the entire West African sub region, said General Seyni Garba of Niger Republic.
Gen Garba said this Friday at a meeting between him and the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin on how to fashion out modality to deepen the existing bilateral relationship between the two countries on the battle against terrorists.
The Nigerien Military Chief, at a meeting which held at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja with top military officers from both countries, said to contain the onslaught of the insurgents, required concerted efforts of the regional members.
CDS Olonisakin in his remark thanked Gen. Garba for the visit, reiterating that the two Armed Forces have collaborated for a long time, especially in the area of training, joint operations and the formation of joint task force at the Lake Chad Basin. He said he had a strong conviction that the outcome of the meeting would herald more solution to resolving the threat of Boko Haram terrorists.
Other officers from Nigerian side, who accompanied the CDS to the meeting, included the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Peter Agba and the Chief of Defence Intelligence Air Vice Marshal Monday Morgan.
