A South African anti-apartheid veteran, Ahmed Kathrada has called on the embattled President Jacob Zuma to resign from office.

The ruling ANC stalwart who was jailed alongside late Nelson Mandela, held that Mr. Zuma’s resignation would end a “crisis of confidence” in the government.

Following Zuma’s conviction Thursday, by South African apex court, the President in a televised address, pledged Friday he would repay the money estimated at $35 million he spent to renovate his private residence, in Nkandla in South Africa KwaZulu-Natal province, but insited he would not resign.
Zuma has recently faced with widespread calls for resignation from South Africa’s opposition, before and after the apex court ruling.
